Varsity College has changed the lives of ten lucky students through its annual bursary competition. Up to R900,000 worth of bursaries were up for grabs this year. This is also the first time since the inception of the national bursary competition four years ago, that students won full-programme tuition bursaries which means that all Varsity College tuition fees for the duration of their programme whether it is a 2 year diploma or a 4 year degree, are covered by the bursary.

VARSITY COLLEGE ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF THE MARINE SURFSKI SERIES 2010!
Varsity College is proud to announce that they are the new title sponsor of the world’s biggest surfski series. The Varsity College Marine Surfski Series shifts into a new era with the first leg of the popular series getting underway at Ushaka Beach on Friday 15 January. This substantially invigorated ten leg series now offers bigger prizes and incentives to the top performers across the various categories.
"Varsity College is dedicated to delivering on its philosophy of promoting a balanced student life", said Carole Adam, Varsity College Sport & Social Manager. "This is evident in our ongoing involvement with the two Durban and Cape Town surfski schools and now our title sponsorships of the Varsity College Marine Surfski Series."
Continuing with this vision in 2010, Varsity College will be launching their new SportsLife Program, an exciting new sporting initiative, across its seven campuses. The focus is on mass participation sports that are fun, modern, healthy, outdoor, individualistic and that one can continue to be involved in for the rest of one’s life. At Varsity College a top priority is preparing students for their career ahead by encouraging a balanced lifestyle with focus on mind, body, social and community! Balance is important in the working environment where social skills, networking opportunities and health can have as much bearing on career success as formal academic grounding. Some of these exciting sports that Varsity College will incorporate into its SportsLife programme are: Mountain Biking, Surfsking, Canoeing, Triathlons and Multisport/Xterra Events and Running.
With the consistent growth in popularity of surfski racing, and Durban's undisputed status as the world's capital of the sport, the series dovetails neatly the Varsity College SportsLife program. Many of the novices who have been learning the ropes through the Varsity College Surfski School, run in Durban by SA paddler Barry Lewin, will be confident and competent enough to take part in the series races.
The Varsity College Marine Series boasts more paddlers taking part over the duration of the ten race series than any other series in the world, while individual race entries for a few other major surf ski races top the regular weekly entry of the Marine series events.
The series has also been boosted by the inclusion of the first ever Varsity College SA Schools Surfski Championships, which will be hosted on the final leg of the series on 9 April. "I am thrilled that Canoeing South Africa has backed this move and made it a formal national schools championship," said Lewin. "Paddling is thriving at school level across the country, and there is a growing interest in surfski paddling amongst the youngsters."
The Varsity College Surfski School will be hosting clinics for schools and has already confirmed interest from eight KwaZulu-Natal schools, five from the Western Cape and five from the Eastern Cape, eager to send teams of athletes to the championship event, and encouraging the pupils to take part in as many of the other series races as part of their preparations.

If you still want to study towards a degree in 2010 but perhaps were too late to apply or have, for academic or other reasons, been unable to gain access to a University, you are still able to apply and register to study towards a degree through Varsity College.
Varsity College has been able to structure a number of very exciting pathway options for students wanting to study towards a degree in 2010. These offerings include academic orientation, short learning programmes and UNISA modules that will allow interested students to make progress with their studies, without having to wait until 2011.
