Gutsy Performance by Varsity College RFC in 2012 USSA Rugby Tournament at The 2012 USSA rugby tournament at WITS got off to a fantastic start, as Varsity College RFC beat University of Fort Hare 33 – 22 in their 1st game. UFH finished third in the Varsity Shield 2012 which made this victory even sweeter. The 2nd round of games brought about a new challenge, the Varsity Shield runners up, Central University of Technology (CUT). In a closely contested game Varsity College RFC lost 20 – 19. We were still very proud of our boys who gave a very gutsy performance. CUT ended up winning USSA 2nd division. In our last game of the week which determined the 3rd / 4th place in USSA 2nd division we played against TUT (Tshwane University of Technology who came last in the Varsity Cup 2012). The Varsity College team played out of their boots and controlled the entire game. Our defence was impeccable and we made sure that we did not concede a try the entire game. The final score was 20 – 3 to Varsity College RFC. Another great week for Varsity College rugby showing we are a force to be reckoned with.
