VC Sports Bulletin

National Action Sports Weekend
National Action Sports Weekend is happening again this year from 8 – 10 July in Westville...so get behind your team as they prepare to take on the other campuses in cricket, soccer and netball and aim to be the Varsity College National Action Sports Champions for 2011!

Westville
Callie Watts, surfski club captain, together with her paddling partner Shaun Simpson won the Short Course category in the first race of the Surfski Winter series. They came 2nd in their 2nd race only 20 seconds behind the leaders.

Sandton
The outdoor cricket team played their first match at Zoo Lake and it was a nail biting finish with our team narrowly losing in the final over!

PMB
The girl’s hockey team are progressing nicely each week and working hard on developing a strong team. They played against DUT and drew 2 all which a great result for a newly formed team.

Durban North
The action netball team played against Wii Not Fit and came out on top by four goals. The team have pulled together nicely and have improved drastically over the season.

Pretoria
The action hockey team played two matches and managed to win their first match by 13-9 but lost their second match 12-9.

PE
The action cricket team played a double header last week, the 1st game was against Pappa Carlies which they won convincingly by 71 runs but ended up losing the 2nd match by 4 runs in the final over.

Cape Town
The action netball girls played in the bronze medal match and won the game 26 – 16, a well deserved win.

The official launch of the Varsity College Tigers is on 4 June at the Durban North campus. Come and support our team! The day will be filled with action packed rugby, entertainment, competition and prizes. The day kicks off at 11.30am with a touch rugby tournament and the 1st team game starts at 3.30pm!
